The
Miniature Society of Cincinnati
The Miniature Society of
Cincinnati (MSC) was founded by
three friends in 1975. As soon as they
obtained a charter from
N.A.M.E. (the National Association of Miniature
Enthusiasts), the
first meeting was held in January,
1976, with eighteen people
attending. MSC is an educational, social, non-profit organization,
whose purpose is to stimulate interest
in the creation and the
collection of miniatures as a creative art form;
to help members
to develop their knowledge and
skills in this field; and to hold
open shows and exhibits for the public.
Presently,
MSC has over ninety members with
varying skill
levels from beginners to master craftspersons.
The strength of
our club is our talented members,
and their total willingness
to share their expertise, guiding
our newer members in how
to proceed. Gradually our new members
find that scale needs
to be considered, that drawers should
slide in and out, hinges
should function, while fittings and
hardware on our furniture
ought to be authentic.
For
the last twenty-five years , MSC has had
a Dollhouse and
Miniature Show that featured extensive
displays of miniatures
including dollhouses, roomboxes, vignettes,
china, silver, and
period furniture. It's interesting to see the
many unusual kinds
of containers that members use for
miniature settings - from
teapots and doctor's bags to old
shoes, hollow tree stumps,
and paper bags.
Our
work has been displayed at
Cincinnati Public Library,
Sharon Woods Village. the Troy-HanerCultural Center,
Loveland
Historical Museum, Cincinnati Art Museum,
and the Promont
Museum to name a few locations; and we
have donated many
dollhouses and roomboxes to area
hospitals and homes for
children.
MSC meets
from 7:30 to 9 P.M. on the
second Wednesday
of each month at Bechtold Lodge
at 4312 Sycamore Road in
Rossmoyne Township. Our August and
December meetings
are for members only parties; at
the other ten meetings we
encourage you to visit. If you come and see activities
that you
might enjoy, we hope that you'll consider
becoming a member.
